Bypass Security

One of the most complex tasks for the cybercriminals is to ensure their malicious code goes undetected by antivirus and achieves its goal. For this, they have invested a lot on more complex infection processes, going beyond the traditional Exploit JPG and using techniques where the malicious payload is hidden in encrypted files – even using a known file format. This is what we found in a new JPG Exploit in the wild: it tries to conceal the malicious files in a Exploit JPG File. And the attack starts with a simple Exploit JPG.

About CVE

CVE was launched in 1999 when most information security tools used their own databases with their own names for security vulnerabilities. At that time there was no significant variation among products and no easy way to determine when the different databases were referring to the same problem.

Microsoft CVE-2017-0073: Windows GDI+ Information Disclosure Vulnerability

An information disclosure vulnerability exists when the Windows GDI component improperly discloses the contents of its memory. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could obtain information to further compromise the user’s system. There are multiple ways an attacker could exploit the vulnerability, such as by convincing a user to open a specially crafted JPG, or by convincing a user to visit an untrusted webpage. The update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how the Windows GDI component handles objects in memory.

There are multiple update packages available for some of the affected software.
